vCluster OSS on Rancher

What about Rancher?

Does vCluster work on Rancher? How do we manage virtual clusters on Rancher? Hey, what about Rancher?

These are just a few of the questions we have heard over the last couple of years at KubeCon, on the interwebs, and everywhere in between. The answer was always yes, but there wasn't a clear path to getting open source virtual clusters deployed using Rancher. Now, there is an easy way to give your users access to deploy virtual clusters; it even comes with multiple buttons.

Get Started

If you want the TL;DR it’s - add a new repository in your cluster “https://charts.loft.sh” and you’ll get a few new options in your charts section + extensions.

If you want to get started immediately, here are a few links and a video.

It’s Open Source

And it’s open source! It’s time to take your Kubernetes clusters to the next level with the best multi-tenancy option. On the way, you might need some help configuring your vCluster; we also have detailed documentation for that.

After you have created the initial virtual cluster without much editing, to see how it works, head on over to our documentation to see all of the configuration options available.

Next Steps

If you have any questions, join our Slack and ask in the vCluster channel, all of the helpful links are over on the left. If you have any feature requests or issues open them in GitHub for the related extension-ui or operator repository. If you just stumbled upon this blog post looking for how to do something in Rancher, head over to the vCluster GitHub Repository and star it so you’ll remember it when you need it.
